High Voltages Vs. Energy Loss
High Voltages Vs. Energy Loss
High voltages vs. Energy lossSummarised solution:Power loss in transmission of power over distance is mainly (but not wholly) by resistive losses.Resistive power loss = $I^2 cdot R$ (current squared x resistance).Power transferred in a circuit = Voltage x Current = V x ISo power lost as a proportion of power carried:$$ P_loss over P_carried = (I^2 cdot R_line) over (V cdot I) = I cdot R over V $$Note that this has units of Voltage/Voltage which cancel to give a dimensionless ratio (as you would hope). The "top line" Voltage is the I x R voltage drop in the line and the bottom line Voltage is the transmission voltage. So loss ratio is effectively resistive_voltage_drop / line_Voltage. So, for a given conductor of resistance R the percentage of power lost will increase as current increases and will decrease as voltage increases. But as Power carried = V x I, if we double V we halve I. If we multiply V x 10 we reduce I by 10. This is a win-win situation for high voltage. This can be put two ways.andA simple calculation shows that loss % decreases as the inverse SQUARE of Voltage . Increase voltage by 10 x and for the same line resistance losses will drop by a factor of 100. Murphy was asleep that day.The gains are so great that if this was the only factor then as high a voltage as possible would make sense. There are other factors such as losses due to corona and the need to provide substantially increased insulation and clearances and tower sizes as voltage foes up BUT economically, it all leads towards big tall ugly very high voltage towers.Simplistic example:1000 Watt power transfer. Rline = 1 ohm.(1) V= 100V, I = 10A. Power transmitted = 100 x 10 = 1000 W. Power loss = I^2 x R = 10^2 x 1 = 100 W. 100/1000 = 10%. 10% of power is lost.(2) V= 1000V, I = 1A. Power transmitted = 1000 x 1 = 1000 W. Power loss = I^2 x R = 1^2 x 1 = 1 W. 1/1000 = 0.1%. 0.1% of power is lost.(3) Increase line resistance to 10R = use 10% of original material. Still use 1000V. V= 1000V, I = 1A. Power transmitted = 1000 x 1 = 1000 W. Power loss = I^2 x R = 1^2 x 10 = 10 W. 10/1000 = 1%. 1% of power is lost. Even when the line uses 10% of the conductor material of the original circuit, an increase in voltage by 10x decreases power loss by a factor of 10 .The reduction in loss and/or material (copper and/or Aluminium conductor) is so vast that use of high voltage is obviously very desirable. There are other factors that make the gains less great in practice BUT the existence of large and larger power pylons demonstrates that reality is still well served by higher voltages.— — — — — —230 and 240 transformer leadsYou may have a transformer that was built for use during the time when Europe was standardizing the line voltage. Up until 1995, various countries in Europe used different line voltages for the outlets. For example, in Germany it was 220V, but in the UK it was 240V. In 1995 (Mains voltage wikipedia ), they all began switching to 230V ,and were supposed to have completed the switchover by 2008. So, you may have a transformer that was built to be installed into a device and used when the line voltage was 240V, but could then be switched (switch or jumper) to use the lower voltage after the changeover. Here in Germany in the early 1990's I used a big test rig for two way radios that had a switchable supply voltage - it was adjustable from like 210V up to 250V. I also own an oscilloscope that was built in 1967 that has a jumper on the back to switch between 110V and 220V - with various jumper positions for voltages from 220V up to 250V (or something like that I do not have it memorized.)— — — — — —having different voltages from 2 batteries in serie (3 voltages…)It's quite simple, you need 3 batteries - it's just a question of where ground is:simulate this circuit - Schematic created using CircuitLabBe warned though that CR2032 batteries can only supply very small currents

The game was held in the two-year-old Olympic Saddledome, which had been built following the Flames arrival in Calgary, and in anticipation of the 1988 Winter Olympics. A sell-out crowd of 16,825 attended the game, and the gala also sold out. In total, $100,000 was raised by the Flames which was donated to charity. The traditional black-tie nature of the banquet and gala were eschewed for this game as the hosts asked attendees to dress up in western wear. Campbell Conference and Edmonton Oilers head coach Glen Sather expressed displeasure that the fans in Calgary did not let go of the Battle of Alberta for the game. He took issue with the fans booing Edmonton's Wayne Gretzky during the player introductions and the game itself. "It's embarrassing when they boo Wayne when he touches the puck. They booed him once before when he was hurt so..." For his part, Gretzky downplayed Sather's concerns: "I've certainly got nothing against them booing me. I kind of get a kick out of it." What Is the Weather Like in Europe in Late August/Early Septemeber?
What is the weather like in Europe in Late August/Early Septemeber?Weather In Europe In September— — — — — —Ps3/wii/xbox 360 I have a choice and can pick any but in late august. So tell me on the basis on that time?Depends on what type of game you wish to play. PS3 is the most expensive capable of playing dvds/ bluerays as well as basic pc function with browser; with popular games in the range of 50-60 USD. xbox 360 comes in the middle and its popular games are around 50-70 USD, but it lacks a hard drive and dvd player like PS3. Wii is the least expensive with games in the range of 30-50 USD; it does not play dvd nor can it function as a basic pc, but it does provide special features such as the capability to connect with the nintendo DS portable system and the wireless controls that involve activity and movement (careful do not hit or break something). So it's up to you to decide how and what to play, good luck— — — — — —How do you dress your newborn in the late august ;/september?I had my first daughter in the begining of september last year. I got a mix of clothing because where we live the weather can not always seem to make up it's mind. When it was warm I put a tank top and shorts, if it was a little cool out then I put on along sleeved onsie with pants. you just dress them how you would dress with one extra layer if it is cold because they can not control there body temp. just yet— — — — — —I had a perm since late august and it hasn't been touched up yet can i dye my hair?It would be fne to color your hair. Where are the best places to visit??!?You are welcome to Thailand. If you are beach lover and would like to go diving, I would recommend Phuket and Koh Samui, There are many great and beautiful beaches and a lot of activities to do, i.e. diving, snorkeling, etc. You may get some ideas about the above two island via my contents here below. Have a wonderful trip to Thailand.— — — — — —I was given a dog to watch for a couple of weeks, that was in Jan.Now they want to pick up the dog late august?I would tell them that they have abandonded the dog and you have made this dog a part of your famly and your not giving him back. You suspect mistreatment on there part and the dog stays put. Next go down to the animal control and register the dog to you. ....now you are the legal owner! Good Luck. ..I hope you get to keep her.— — — — — —how busy are the theme parks in late august? They stay pretty heavy until Labor day...though the last week is better than the first 2 weeks— — — — — —In your opinion do you think domestic travel will be possible by late august-september?I think so but no one knows for sure at this point— — — — — —Disney trip, late April versus late August?April, hands down. Kids are still in school, its nice and warm not too hot, hardly any rain, and who wants to wait till August. We went in April last year and it did not rain once while we were there and we had a fabulous trip. It was not busy either. Anytime you go to disney will be great though, just plan, plan, plan. Visiting Disney and getting away from lines and saving money is all just a science that you will learn as you go. My biggest tip is skip the silly parades and ride rides while there are no lines! Have a great trip— — — — — —Chicago: Weather, Pubs, Crime, and more... (Late August Weekend Trip)?I highly recommend for you to go to Navy Pier on a saturday. I hear they have fireworks then. I advise you to go to the John Hancock tower and go to the 96th 97th 99somethingth floor. There they have a lounge like restaurant where you have a great view of the city. If you go to the Sears Tower you have to pay admission and all you get at the top is a gift shop. I am sorry to say but I am not sure about your timing question... Rush hour is a long process to get through..

But if you are looking for DIY solutions to some of the most annoying issues your clothes face, breathe easy. To better understand how to handle laundry issues typically remedied by an array of chemicals, I spoke to Alexandra Zissou, an author of numerous books on green living. She walked me through the earth-friendly solutions to three common laundry complaints. Even better, her fixes are all under $5. Keep reading for three earth-friendly solutions to common laundry struggles. The issue: Your workout clothes smell, no matter how many times they are washed There are few things more mojo-killing than getting dressed to *slay* a workout class and then realizing something smells.off. While your first inclination may be to add some essential oils to your next load of workout wear, Zissou advises against it-particularly if you have sensitive skin or prefer to go au naturel under your leggings. "I am not big on putting essential oils in laundry, especially if anyone in your household has sensitive skin. I especially do not like the idea of essential oil residue on underwear. That's a recipe for a rash," she says. To avoid feeling the burn-and not in a good way-leave the essential oils for your diffuser. Instead, Zissou recommends reaching for the trusty baking soda and vinegar combo you may have heard of a time or two before. "Essential oils are just a topical fix. The baking soda etc. will actually get the root of the stench out, potentially killing the germs that are making the stink." She advises adding 1/2 cup of baking soda and vinegar during the rinse cycle. You can also add a teaspoon of lemon juice to the wash cycle for a fresh, pleasant scent. The issue: Your load of whites is not looking so bright anymore Like the workout clothes situation, slipping into a comfy white tee that's now more of a gray hue or has yellow armpit stains is a less-than-ideal way to start the day. But while it may be tempting to buy into "eco-friendly" bleach options, chances are you are paying way more than you need to. "One of the biggest open secrets in the laundry industry is that 'ecological bleach', which is sold by a whole host of natural product companies, is actually just hydrogen peroxide," says Zissou. "It's a lot cheaper to just buy and use hydrogen peroxide," says Zissou. For a cleaner alternative to chlorine bleach, Zissou typically adds 1 cup of 3-percent hydrogen peroxide to full load of laundry. It both sanitizes the load *and* whitens. If you do not have hydrogen peroxide on hand, Zissou also recommends adding a 1/2 cup of lemon juice to the rinse cycle-just remember, hydrogen peroxide and lemon juice do not mix. The issue: Your load of colors is looking a little faded Sometimes you are going for the faded and worn-in look. But when it's your favorite dark-wash jeans or a richly colored sweater looking a little washed out, it can be really frustrating. The fix for this laundry woe has more to do with your wash settings than anything else. "Cold water and line drying really helps with this," says Zissou. "Cold water truly washes clothing well. Today's products are formulated to clean in cold water, which saves money and energy. The only time you might want hot water is if someone in your household has allergies and you want to kill dust mites." Plus, line-drying has the added benefit of humidifying the air, according to Zissou. TBH, that's a welcome plus after enduring months of radiator-parched indoor air. Here are six other clean swaps you can make in the laundry room. Once you get your laundry routine down, make your bedroom into a total oasis-on a budget.

How effective is .308/7.62x51 against humans, out of a 16" barrel? So, I did an improvised test on home made ballistic gel a few years ago. It stemmed from a discussion I had with a buddy on the effectiveness of .308 hunting loads in a home defense situation. So, we made up a 18 by 18 block of gel, and hit it at 25 yards with a handloaded 150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip at 2550 FPS at the muzzle from a 16 inch barreled rifle. I wish I had video of the test because the block of gel basically turned into a spray of large and small chunks of gelatin. The real stuff is probably a better test and we were not able to recover any of the projectile. But it was fun. And enlightening. The . 308, in any of its incarnations, is a very effective round against almost anything, two legged or four, outside of Africa.Skal.How effective is .308/7.62x51 against humans, out of a 16" barrel?5. What is that camera staring at you from NJ traffic lights?A video camera mounted on a traffic light in Jersey City. Readers asked what these cameras do and what information they record. (Larry Higgs | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com) Is Big Brother watching you from video cameras perched high on top of traffic signals? After recent questions about pedestrian beacons and other apparatus that readers spotted on traffic signals in various parts of the state, they asked about another piece of equipment mounted on signals. Q: What are the mysterious white tubular objects found on top of traffic signals, and what do they do? A: There are a lot of cameras looking at drivers on the road, from red light cameras to cameras that show traffic conditions. That piece of equipment mounted on traffic lights is a video camera, but it's not an electric eye watching everything you do. Cameras mounted on top of traffic lights are sensors to control traffic light timing, according to the Department of Transportation. They replace "loop" sensors, which are buried in the road at intersections. Loop sensors work by detecting the metal of a vehicle in an intersection that send an electrical impulse to a traffic signal control box, which starts the sequence to change signals. Now that job is done by overhead cameras, which use video to detect the presence of vehicles and starts the process to change the signal. A very detailed explanation of what those cameras do is on Missouri's DOT website. They do not record images of the vehicle's driver or license plate and those images are not stored. They should not be confused with red light cameras, which were mounted near traffic lights, but not on them. New Jersey ended the red light enforcement camera program on Dec. 16, 2014 and required those cameras be removed. The cameras that do record "everything" are traffic cameras, which are typically found along state highways and toll roads. Traffic cameras, which are located in public areas, record traffic delays, incidents and weather conditions, according to the NJDOT website. Those images are kept for seven days. The Hottest Questions About Canisters
The Hottest Questions About Canisters
Do you want to know about Canisters? Here are some frequently asked questions.1. Is it safe to preheat spraypaint canisters on a gas grill?Really? Wait until the outside temp is close to 60 degrees to use spray paint. Right now, your RV wheels could care less. Anyway, spray paint canisters on a gas grill.....seriously? I guess you could try, however, the neighbors may call the police because they fear of a bomb in the area.2. How do you safely and legally dispose of old, damaged/unsafe camp stove gas canisters that are still full?Putting my comment into an answer - I do not think you need to over think it, they are nothing special. Propellant for most aerosols is Butane, these have an odor added, so are no different than a can of air freshener and could be used as one if you like the smell of gas. As the amount of butane in each can is not that much, I would put them into a cooker (outside), use a detergent spray to check for leaks. If there is no leak, light it and let the gas burn. If there is a leak, I would leave the cooker outside in a safe, open space (away from combustibles) and let the gas run out without lighting it, you may want to open the valve on low and leave it overnight. Ideally do this on a day with a bit of breeze to disperse the gas (mainly for the smell). As gas is heavier than air, I would sit the cooker up high on a table top, and make sure there are no open pits close by (e.g. swimming pools etc.) for the heavy gas to accumulate in. Some might suggest keeping smokers away while doing this - however I am normally non-interventionist, and believe in letting nature take its course.3. Can I mix deep red canisters and accents with our arabella plate set?Wow, that is a challenge. They do not really go together -but you can work it. deep red, dark blue, and a little gold in kitchen colors/accents [ DON'T add any more colors ]: canisters [ the dark red ] curtains placemats small appliances [ toaster, blender, etc. ] maybe white walls, appliances, floors, or counters?4. Will Coleman fuel canisters fit the Jetboil Flash Cooking system?I would not count on it. If you are smart you will go to the sporting goods store and check for sure. The way it appears online shows a Jetboil canister which I am sure would be expensive5. is it bad to store co2 canisters (for pellet guns) is freezing conditions? The cartridges are filled with liquid CO26. My friend bought me a Walther PPK BB-gun for my birthday. It uses 12g CO2 canisters, how many shots?Well why ask on Yahoo Answers when you can go in your backyard and count how many can hit the Coke can from 10 feet. Also, what brand is your PPK? And what is the fps (speed)?7. I am looking for kitchen canisters. 4 in total, flour, baking soda, baking powder and sugar....?Good Luck---I've been around awhile, and I have NEVER seen canisters labeled for "baking soda" and "baking powder"....generally those are things people keep in the cupboard....so I am guessing your best bet will be to label them yourself, and get some kind of glass paint from a craft store to do it... Rarely do I see canister sets labeled at all, with names of what you are 'supposed' to keep in there..I guess they figure everyone keeps something different...Like for me, keeping flour & sugar on the counter in a canister set attracts ants in the summer, so I keep them in plastic containers with tightly sealable lids in the cupboard, and my canisters have rice, beans and tea in them... You might be able to find the labeled sets in a thrift store, I think that labeling thing was more common for goods produced awhile ago, but like I said, still doubt you will find it saying 'baking soda & powder." Just find a set that matches your kitchen, and like I said, paint the words on yourself with paint for glass or ceramics, whatever the canisters are made of...some paint comes in a bottle where you can do the words without a paintbrush, just squeeze the paint out as you are writing....If you do paint on them, just hand wash them in cool water when you need to wash them (not in dishwasher or with hot water) and do not use a scrubber over the area where you painted. Good Luck!
